Dear Nurses, →
amistrong-enough: Dear Nurses, You guys were so great in the hospital. No matter what patients you had, you always swung by my room to see how I was. I remember you even got me a coloring butterfly down in the gift shop for Christmas. No matter what, you managed to care & love for me like great nurses should. You always told me how great I looked, even when I know I didn’t. Even though I...

Taking a short break
I hope you all have a wonderful week but I will be relaxing and not working on this site. I am rarely with my family and for the first time in a year, I am. Feel free to submit stories for when I get back. xoxo Nicole

Life with a chronic illness: travel →
lifewithautoimmune: I don’t know about you, but one major hurdle for me since getting sick is travel. Whether it’s vacation to a new place or visiting family/friends at their homes, logistics feel blatantly overwhelming, complicated and exhausting. With several invisible illnesses in tow, I have a solid list of “must haves” when staying elsewhere… memory foam pillow (the style I have is...

A friend of my sister past away last night.
<!— More —> You can find his story here: Part 1 & Part 2. He had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and cheated death 3 times in his short life. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with the loss of this young life.  I know this isn’t Crohn’s or Colitis related but I thought it would be good to pass Ben’s story on. xoxo...

agirlwithguts: Okay, so first, I REALLY just wanted to post this gif.   Because it’s the first gif I have ever made. Obviously it takes very little to entertain me.  ;) Humor me here and pretend like you enjoy it.  On to business… First off, happy 1st day of winter.  Winter happens to be my almost least favorite season.  I hate the spring more than winter, but winter is a close 2nd.  Which...

luckycolon: My good friend said,  “I think you hide your pain just a little too well”.  Which is true. I don’t complain, ever, to my friends. However after walking a while in London I had to ask to sit down and take a little rest. I told her later that I was in a large amount of pain and she couldn’t believe it.  I really only say something if my pain is super bad. I probably don’t help matters,...

Woe is Me →
mindofhayley: I had my [emergency!] colectomy in July, suffered multiple infections/abscesses, had to reopen my wound (is FINALLY healed!), drains, PIC line, antibiotics, blah blah blah. After spending months being in the hospital and even more months being miserable, the fact that I had an ileostomy bag was the least of my worries.  I can’t really complain about it though. Today I feel healthy...

The reality of being chronically ill →
ihaveabadtummy: skin is breaking out. Hair is falling out. Hair is thinner and thinner everyday, impossible to style. Clothes are baggy due to weight loss beyond my control. Nails are fragile. Joints cause discomfort when used for too long. Sleeping too long causes stiffness. Not sleeping enough= light headed. Vision is weak. Side effects of meds are worse than actually being sick. ...
